The end of the world, slave recordings, Richmond is #1, and “time-lapse mining.”

It is a slow Sunday for history news, but there are a couple of tidbits:

With Mad Max back in theaters (why!?) here is a neat little history of apocalyptic literature.

I am not sure if this is new news or not, but it has popped up in my Twitter feed, so I thought I would pass it along. The Library of Congress has made available online the audio recordings with former slaves. As we all know, these interviews are problematic, but when used correctly they can be a great source.

Great news for all the great history sites in Richmond! American Express has named the city as its #1 US city to visit this summer!!

Underwater archaeologists have been exploring a Caribbean shipwreck filled with sword blades, scissors and mule shoes. Here are some pics.

Speaking of pics: Here is a pretty cool project called “time-lapse mining,” in which computer scientists have created time-lapse videos using photos that people have publicly shared online.
